The Chhattisgarh government founded MATS University, Raipur, a private university in the state that is operated by the Shri Bhagwan Mahavir Jain Education and Cultural Society. It was founded in 2006. The main campus of the university is situated on 130 acres of beautiful, green land near Aarang, on the outskirts of Raipur, and is well-served by public transportation. The other campus is located in the centre of the city, next to the Pandri Bus Stand. The institution has received approval from NCTE, AICTE, AIU, and BCI in addition to UGC's recognition. The university has a B++ grade and NAAC accreditation. The Honourable Chancellor Sir of MATS University received a Super Indian Award in 2023 for Exemplary Work in the Higher Education Sector.

Through its 14 schools or academic divisions, MATS University provides a number of undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and diploma programs. It currently has more than 17,000 students enrolled in regular and distance learning programs working towards undergraduate and graduate degrees.The institute admits students into its BTech, MTech, and MBA programs based on their performance on entrance exams such as JEE, CG-PET, MU-PET, GATE, CAT, MAT, and XAT, among others. The CAT cutoff for the MBA program for general category applicants stayed at the 70 percentile for the 2023 admissions session. Additionally, MATS University places eligible students each year; according to placement records, the biggest package is INR 10 LPA. Reliance Trends, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Cipla, Pantaloons, and others are some of the well-known companies that recruit for the institute.
