Manipur University is a central university that was founded in 1980 in Imphal, the state capital. Central University, which is recognised by the UGC, received a "A" grade from the NAAC. Two medical institutions are among the 119 affiliated colleges of Manipur University. Additionally, the Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT) is a constituent college of the School of Engineering. The campus occupies 287.5 acres and is protected amid Imphal's picturesque setting.
