The government of Bihar established Aryabhatta Knowledge University, or AKU Patna, to develop and oversee the state's educational infrastructure for technical, medical, managerial, and associated professional education.

Under several specialisations, it provides a variety of technical, medical, and management courses. Courses at the undergraduate level include B.Tech., M.B.B.S., B.D.S., B.A.M.S., and so on, while courses at the graduate level include M.Tech., M.S., M.D., M.B.A., M.Sc., and so on.
